Amaranta is an NGO founded in the city of Concepción, Chile, at the beginning of 2018. It is a feminist space, made up of women from different areas of the Social Sciences, Humanities and activism. We are an independent, self-managed NGO without any relationship with political parties.
It arises from the need to make visible what is happening in our closest social and cultural fabric, from an interdisciplinary perspective. It has a permanent and critical view towards the issues of Gender, Technology, Diversity and Human Rights. Our approach is local, from Biobío, from Chile, from Latin America, with decolonial thinking as a base. Therefore, the work of this NGO is oriented towards the community and its local problems.
Our mission is to establish ourselves as a space for research and action for women, for the promotion of gender equality and human rights in a wide variety of areas, including: education, health, culture, technologies and the media. communication.
In the midst of a patriarchal, colonialist, heteronormative and neoliberal society, we seek to promote a social and cultural transformation, both in the institutional agents and in the community. This, through social and scientific research, hand in hand with participatory methodologies and based on the dialogue of knowledge.
Amaranta is an organization oriented towards the problems of women: lesbians, bisexuals, trans, workers, migrants, displaced people, settlers, indigenous people. But this, without ceasing to be an inclusive and open place for anyone who wants to come to discuss these issues, regardless of their race, gender, ethnicity or origin.
Therefore, it is a space that fights against racism, classism, misogyny, lesbo/transphobia and all forms of discrimination and domination. And this seeks to be achieved through training, research, critical perspective and horizontal dialogue, recognizing different forms of knowledge, beyond the academy.
