The Satellite Applications Catapult is an independent innovation and technology organization with the mission 'to innovate for a better world, empowered by satellites'.
The Catapult helps organizations make use of and benefit from satellite technologies, and bring together multi-disciplinary teams to generate ideas and solutions in an open innovation environment. The Catapult can act as a neutral, trusted entry point to exploring applications of satellite technologies to support or enhance organizations activities and processes.
The Catapult was established in May 2013 by Innovate UK as one of a network of centers to accelerate the take-up of emerging technologies and drive economic growth. It is a not-for-profit research organization which is registered as a private company limited by guarantee and controlled by its Board.
Priorities as a partner of the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data
The Catapult is committed to supporting the delivery of the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development (also known as Sustainable Development Goals) throughout its activities. Our aim is to create sustainable partnerships with public sector organizations focused on innovation and the integration of satellite applications into everyday service delivery.
We help build resilience in developing countries by using satellite-enabled technologies to better address the increasing challenges from natural disasters and climate change, and their impacts on food security by bringing together the full stakeholder community: Governments, UN, International organizations, NGOs, Industry, Academia, and civil society.
