The International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) is an independent think tank that promotes human development and environmental sustainability. With offices in Winnipeg, Geneva, Ottawa, Toronto, and New York, our work affects lives in nearly 100 countries.
IISD’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) program provides information and analysis in support of the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including the 17 SDGs. Our work seeks to enhance SDG implementation by increasing the accountability of decision-makers, transforming patterns, processes, and relationships for implementation and engagement, and developing and applying methods to track progress in new ways.
Priorities as a partner of the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data
Our Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Knowledge Program enhances SDG implementation through our information sharing and dissemination work on the SDG Knowledge Hub and by convening and enabling SDG practitioners in the Geneva 2030 Ecosystem.
We work at the local level to establish community indicator systems and assess how Canada can measure its comprehensive wealth to move “beyond GDP” as the fundamental measure of societal progress. In addition, we have specific initiatives aimed at understanding the costs of action and inaction including, analyzing the cost to end hunger (implement SDG 2) globally, and valuing the true cost of pollution in Canada.
