On the 23rd of July, the Global Partnership hosts a training led by the OpenUp for the second cohort of the Capacity Accelerator Network (CAN), in partnership with data.org, and funded by the Wellcome Trust. The program will build the capacity of over 100 data science professionals working in government agencies, national statistical offices, non-governmental organizations, and social impact organizations across Africa.

Following the launch, participants will undergo a 3-month training program focusing on capacity support and scaling through modular training and experiential learning.

Overview

The CAN initiative aims to develop African data science talent for addressing climate and health challenges. The initiative will train emerging data science professionals, equipping them with the necessary interdisciplinary skills to work at the intersection of climate and health.

Our primary objective is to bolster the National Statistical Systems in partner countries and the social impact sector. By doing so, we aim to empower them to harness the potential of the data revolution. We are also committed to bridging the current talent gap, with a specific focus on promoting diversity across gender and minority lines.

The program will implement scalable solutions to address training gaps, upskill existing talent, support social impact leaders, and enhance the capacity of social impact organizations and the public sector to be data-driven.
