The Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data, with support from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), organizes an in-person workshop in Accra, Ghana, during July 24-26 as part of the Capacity Accelerator Network (CAN) initiative.

The Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) and the GEO-LDN Helpdesk institution in Africa, working with GIZ, deliver training to leverage earth observation technologies for Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN). The workshop brings together partners from three countries, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Ghana, and Nigeria, to complete training on the LDN toolbox, facilitate the sharing of information on various aspects of land degradation, and exchange country-specific information on land degradation, land use decisions, and environment.

The workshop captures the impact and lessons learned from the LDN CAN initiatives in these three countries and serves as a platform for knowledge exchange and capacity building to accelerate efforts towards achieving LDN.

Background

Under the Africa Climate and Health Data Capacity Accelerator Network (CAN), the Group on Earth Observations - Land Degradation Neutrality (GEO-LDN), hosted by GIZ, supported three fellows who were embedded in government and social impact organizations offices in Ghana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Nigeria. The objective of the addition of LDN in the CAN program is to capacitate relevant actors in each country to use data to monitor land degradation and work towards LDN.
