National Statistics Offices (NSOs) are continually seeking to develop their skills and protocols to adapt to the changing world of data, and increase the availability of timely, inclusive, and accountable data. With new methods for data collection and analysis, including AI and big data, and new data sources such as satellite imagery and social media, NSOs have an opportunity to innovate through “experimental statistics”.
While there are no global standards yet, to make the most of these innovations and recognize "experimental statistics" as part of statistical production, the development of national protocols is essential.
The Global Partnership has been working with Paraguay to develop the necessary skills and support the process of establishing its experimental statistics protocol since 2023, including facilitating international exchanges between NSOs to review the protocols, the first in October 2023 with the UK, the second with Colombia.
