The Office of the Chief Government Statistician (OCGS) Zanzibar coordinates the production of official statistics, provides high quality statistical data and information and promotes their use in planning, decision-making, administration, governance, monitoring and evaluation.
OCGS joined the Inclusive Data Charter (IDC) in January 2020 to strengthen their work on gender statistics.
A need to improve gender statistics comes from Zanzibar Strategy for Growth and Reduction of Poverty (ZSGRP III) and from a commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to ensure no one is left behind.
Priorities as an Inclusive Data Charter Champion:
- To progress and improve disaggregated gender statistics in vital, migration and crime statistics.
- Work more closely with data producers in Zanzibar and build their capacity around gender statistics
