Accessing, understanding, and sharing data to address societal challenges has been fundamental to human progress and achieving the UN's sustainable development goals. Without adequate information and participatory data storytelling mechanisms, sustainable progress and ensuring the most marginalized are not left behind can not be attained. This is why the Data Values Manifesto demands to shift power structures in data and ensures that everyone has the skills to have a say on how their data is being used, shared, and told.

The session will unpack the importance of data storytelling and visualization and how it enhances data agency and disrupts power imbalances. We will explore ways in which data storytelling and visualization improve the understanding and impact of data, empower individuals to make informed decisions, and build data literacy.

We will hear from leaders in the data storytelling space about work they are leading to challenge power dynamics and how their work enables individuals to articulate and demand for representation within data–ultimately ensuring that their needs, priorities, and experiences are accurately reflected in policies and decision-making. Our speakers will also offer practical tips on compelling storytelling and visualization, enabling others to contribute to a more equitable and fair data future.

Join us for an insightful dialogue, contribute to the topic, and connect with others passionate about creating a more inclusive data-driven world. Attendees will a slo receive updates from the Data Values Project, gaining insights into upcoming opportunities for collaboration in 2024.

This event is open to the public, so please share it with your networks.
